Alumni Latest news / dates for your diary

1.     OSA Executive Committee meetings:

These are held, at College (with an option for a Zoom connection if anyone can’t make the venue), midweek from 7.00pm

These meetings, 3 normal, 1 AGM and any special meetings (often an extra one for reunion) are for Committee members only.

However, if anyone from membership wishes to have a particular subject raised, they can request that it be put on the agenda – this through a direct contact with the Honorary Secretary, Liz Molloy.

Dates are fixed at the previous meeting and will be noted on Facebook and this website.

2.     The Annual Reunion:

This takes place on the first Saturday of July each year. It is held at College and is a paid for event. It is open to all paid up members, although, each year a good number take out membership (£10 annually) in order to attend.

This is the high spot of the year and in its current format is a high-quality seated meal for 110. The day also boasts an outstanding memorabilia exhibition and various items of merchandise are on sale too.

In addition to the hot meal served in the refectory a pay (cash) bar is available throughout the day.

3.     The Annual Murton Pike walk:

During the 1970s, the College had a field centre for various course groups to use. This was situated in Murton, near Appleby, in Cumbria.

In the recent past a group of students, ably led by 1978 leaver and committee man Rob O’Hara, has offered a great weekend for those wishing to not only socialise, but perhaps to stretch themselves a bit with this walk!

This weekend is becoming very popular. This usually takes place two weeks before reunion.

Invitation information is published on this website, our Facebook pages and via email - and of course ‘word of mouth’!

The group normally meets in a specific hostelry in Appleby on the Friday evening. Some departures take place on Saturday afternoon/evening whilst others make it through to the Sunday – hardy souls!!!

4.     Various golfing groups:

There are a number of sporadic groups who gather (primarily for their own subject group) for golfing days. When we are notified, we will share any invites with the wider membership.

The Mark Jones Memorial Golf Tournament will enter its third year in 2025. Mark Jones (1976 PE student) passed away tragically over 3 years ago. In his memory, and in conjunction with his elder brother, Pete Jones, also an Old Salt, there is now a growing group that gathers for this tournament.

5.     Facebook:

Whilst your committee recognises that not everyone likes ‘social media’, it would be fair to say that our PRIVATE FB group is very popular, with over 300 participants. Not only is it the repository on many hundreds of photos from college life over the years, but it is also a great way of keeping in touch!

Many old friends have found former student colleagues through these pages. Why not give it a try?

Remember, it is a private group, with members only being allowed to join having answered verification questions to join.

The photos are amazing and some of the recollections from over the years are quite brilliant.

6.     Something else?:

If you are involved with a past students’ group that you would like to share with us – with the opportunity for others to join, please let us know!!!
